Internet

Somebody is trying to control the Internet or just the usage of it?

Understanding desalination

When Manorama reports something, it is expected to be spicy and that is why we read "Creating History" more often. The Hindu says its 44km off the cost. So is Manorama just below the picture, but could not resist adding another 4km while reporting. While the cost of the water produced at 3-4 Paise/L is acceptable Rs 5/L is highly unrealistic. Why worry about drawing water from 500m deep while surface water is available? answer: the deep cold water is used for condensing the water vapour generated from the warm water (presently surface water and the plan is to use water from thermal power plant)

Count down

Count down starts on Saturday at 4.30 pm. After 42 Hr its Monday 3.30pm !!!

Advanced avionics module is made for studying deep space radiations .... Mathrubhumi rocks..

Above Edison

If anybody asks me who is a better inventor than Edison, I would say D.Vijayamohan..

Incandescent bulbs contribute global warming, everyone agree.

see the wonderful reasoning "Bulbs heat rapidly and release Carbon Dioxide"!! an inventor emerges.

(read the fact given in The Hindu)

other reasons for banning the bulb..

1) uses 20% less energy (CFL maker Philips says up to 80%)
2) life is 10,000 Hrs (Philips is modest. claims only 6,000 Hrs)

Manorama shows a cartoon that takes 80% of the news space..crime.

Tire burst

You think the high velocity particles of a tire burst are the direct cause of people getting hurt...

Orbit raising.

What will be the initial shape of the orbit of a satellite when it is released from the launch vehicle? If you know the answer, it's good, else you will be surprised to see small motors on the satellite work for 93 minutes to raise it from 254 km to a whopping 14,244 km away from earth.

Hacksaw

Did you mean Hacksaw?

Transponder Finance

One transponder costs $1m..then how much ISRO gets for 24?

creating news

Its an interesting comparison, one news paper "reports" the news and the other "creates". At the time of this report an autopsy was taking place. I read the head line and thought it's the autopsy report. In fact it was just local media reports..

Bangalore airshow

I wonder why my regional news papers are finding it difficult to report anything technical accurately. More often the reporters are getting excited too much and carried away.
Here is a report on Bangalore airshow 2007 by Mathrubhoomi. It says F-16 has never gone outside the US. In fact it is the most widely used fighter plane through out the world (24 airforces apart from the USAF).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-16

He goes on saying Boeing has brought two F16s (Wikipedia says its been manufactured by General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin)

other great findings of this report follows

Gripen is an american company and it has come with its spear head F19

(Fact: The Saab JAS 39 "Gripen" (Griffin or "Gryphon") is a fighter aircraft manufactured by the Swedish aerospace company Saab)

Chinook is having 2 propellers

(Read it as 2 rotors)

Chinook can lift 5 Gypsies

(He means 5 cars)

There'r two main shows one is by Indian airforce's "nedum thoonukal" and other one is by planes like Sukhoy Jaguar and Mig.

(Dont get confused these planes are IAF's mainstay)

LCA is Light Compact Aircraft or Light Combat Aircraft?

Suyra Kiranukal or Surya Kiranangal?

Brahmos

Surface to surface missile is not the same as "karayil ninnum karayilekku"...

have a look at this missile, any resemblance with Brahmos?

Yakhont

Front Nozzle

Its the greatest finding in recent years!! Nozzle is the front end of a rocket..
ISRO will be lauching a a vehicle capable of carrying a payload of 50 Ton (not 5 Ton) !!!

U(C)AV

India is making unmanned plane good, but go on and you find a "combat/fighter" word creeps in. Confused between UCAV and UAV. (good that english expansion is given)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UCAV

The Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV) or "combat drones" is the name of a new class of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). They differ from ordinary UAVs, because they are designed to deliver weapons (attack targets) – possibly with a great degree of autonomy.

Balan

you see the photo first then read the line just below and the heading you are lost..
No.. you should follow some rules..read the heading first and the main text "Balan" is not a kid he's 59 year old

Nashtam

OK i will read the headline first....oops what happened to the student
Oh no!! rule is just changed. Satrt with the main text.

MANGO TREE PUZZLE

ignoring the fact that mango trees come under (former) dicotyledons, this article says this tree generally does not develop branches...
and throws out a puzzle too
the featured mango tree is having 500 m perimeter and covers an area of 7500 m^2 . find the shape..
